Design Policy

Design Policy

Design is a powerful agent of change and to transform innovation into progress. This is how it is understood by Barcelona Design centre and also by the European Commission (with a Design for Innovation Policy since 2011) or the World Economic Forum. It is moreover a cross-disciplinary ally for all of our economy’s production sectors and the challenges that our society faces.

In order to show the strategic value of design and its economic and social impact, we work intensely to ensure that the recognition of design in public policies becomes a reality.

We are an active member of BEDA (The Bureau of European Design Associations), an association with more than 50 members from 28 countries based in Brussels, and we have participated in projects such as Design4Innovation and initiatives such as the European Design Leadership Board of the European Commission, a think tank to define the role of design in Europe's innovation policy.

In the sphere of domestic policy, we led and coordinated the first Spanish Design Ecosystem, a platform which identifies the different actors and brings together studies to position the Spanish design sector in relation to other economic sectors. And we have also coordinated the study "Keys on public procurement of design services", an informative publication on how to successfully carry out the process of contracting design services by public administrations.

We have promoted the Pacto por el Diseño initiative, with the aim of developing a National Design Strategy, together with FAD, Red Española de Asociaciones de Diseño, Forum of Renowned Spanish Brands, Design Foundation of the Valencian Community and Centro Aragonés de Diseño Industrial, and we have presented the document "50 Keys for a National Design Strategy in Spain"
